One of the dark comedy thriller drama series that was recently released on OTT giant, Netflix is Killer Soup. The web series is created by Unaiza Merchant, Anant Tripathi, Harshad Nalawade, and Abhishek Chaubey. The story revolves around Konkona Sen Sharma’s character named Swathi Shetty, who is an amateur but ambitious chef and hopes to open her restaurant someday, so she can serve her favourite Paya soup to her customers. Killer Soup is set in the fictional village of Mainjur in South India. These backdrops are from Kerala, which is believed to be God’s own country due to its picturesque locales. Manoj Bajpayee also plays the lead in the series, alongside Konkona. The duo shared screen for the first time in this web series. They recently opened up about the behind-the-scenes moments while shooting for the show in the lush green landscape of Kerala.
In an interview, Konkona Sen Sharma expressed her views about Kerala. She said, “The beauty of Kerala captured throughout the series contributed to the visual storytelling. The valleys were not just a backdrop, the light and shadow enhanced my performance.” She further added that her memories of the locations are about the fresh breath of wind, the scent of the soil, and the breathtaking outdoor locations which according to her are a “testimony to the amazing synergy between the actors and their environment.”
Manoj Bajpayee too opened up about his experience while shooting in Kerala. He said that amid the beautiful lanes of Kerala, he played a unique role in the series not just as an actor but also as the chef of the team. Every week, he embarked on an adventure to cook delicious food for the crew which helped him unleash his hidden talent for cooking. He explained that the rich culinary culture of Kerala further encouraged them to try out new dishes on the sets. All the crew members would gather after a long and busy day of shooting, and celebrate by enjoying the food and exploring beautiful places like Munnar.
Killer Soup is an eight-episode web series. It is helmed by Abhishek Chaubey who has previously directed movies like Sonchiriya, Udta Punjab and Ishqiya.
