Guneet Monga 'Cried Her Eyes Out' After Watching Vikrant Massey's 12th Fail

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail has emerged as a cinematic triumph ever since its release. Having hit theatres in October 2023, the film, which is based on the life of IPS officer Manoj Sharma, received much critical acclaim not just in India but globally. Made on a minimal budget of Rs 20 crore, the film made impressive records. 12th Fail also received massive praise from fans and celebrities, and the list is just growing day by day. In a recent one, Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor has now joined the list of those who watched the film and absolutely loved it.

Monga recently took to her social media accounts and shared her views after watching the film. Sharing a picture of the film’s poster, the filmmaker said that she broke into tears after watching the Vikrant Massey starrer. Monga also congratulated the entire team of the film and extended her wishes to the real-life Manoj and Shraddha.

“Sitting at the Lucknow airport Starbucks and CRYING my eyes out watching #12thFail What an incredible film! I swear if I had seen this 15 – 20 years ago, the main IAS / IPS bannti! Congratulations to VVC Sir & the entire team & salute to the real & reel Manoj & Shraddha,” she wrote.

Monga also mentioned that she missed the film in theatres but was able to capture its magic on the streaming platform, Disney Plus Hotstar.

For the unversed, Guneet Monga, in a historic feat, won the Best Documentary Short Film award alongside Kartiki Gonsalves for their project, The Elephant Whisperers, at the 2023 Oscars. The achievement marks Guneet’s second Oscar victory after her 2019 win with the documentary short film, Period: End of Sentence.

Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, 12th Fail revolves around the struggles of UPSC aspirants, based on the real-life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame a lot of challenges to become an IPS officer. Vikrant Massey is seen playing the lead role, taking on the role of Sharma, while Medha Shankr plays his on-screen wife, Shraddha Joshi.

Following this release, 12th Fail received a lot of appreciation despite facing major box-office clashes with films like Animal. The film has also been sent to the Oscars 2024 as an independent nomination.
