The yesteryear Bollywood actors are known for their straightforward attitude, which sometimes even got in the way of their work. According to reports, veteran actor Raaj Kumar was famous for his different acting style, as well as his attitude. The actor reportedly declined to do one huge film because he did not want to work with the director. Raaj Kumar is known for his intense acting performances, and his signature style of speaking. He is also known to have an attitude that made him lose on one of the biggest films of that era. Reports state that Prakash Mehra, the director of the superhit film Zanjeer, initially went to Raaj Kumar to cast him as the film’s lead.
As per some reports, Raaj Kumar liked the script of the film very much, but refused to do it because he did not like the director’s face. While, according to this anecdote, Raaj Kumar said something to the director. He reportedly told him, “You have a smell of Bijnori oil. We won’t even stand with you for a minute, let alone a movie.” Naturally, Prakash Mehra felt insulted after this encounter and left. More reports say that Prakash also went to top actors like Dharmendra and Dev Anand for the film, then to Raaj Kumar, and eventually the role was given to Amitabh Bachchan.
Directed by Prakash Mehra, Zanjeer was released on May 11, 1973. It starred Amitabh Bachchan, Pran, Jaya Bachchan, Ajit Khan, and Bindu. It was produced under the banners of Prakash Mehra Productions, Asha Studios, Chandivali Studio, Filmistan Studio, RK Studios, and Swati Studios. The music in the film was composed by the duo Kalyanji-Anandji, while N Satyen did the cinematography, and the editing was done by R Mahadik. Made on a budget of Rs 90 lakh, the film was able to collect Rs 17 crore at the box-office, and went on to become one of the biggest films in the Indian cinema.
