Tata Motors is set to launch its fourth electric vehicle (EV), the Tata Punch EV, in India tomorrow.
The Punch EV will be offered in four variants: Adventure, Smart, Empowered, and Empowered+. Bookings for the Punch EV commenced earlier this month with a nominal fee of Rs 21,000.
Tata Motors already has a presence in the electric vehicle segment with models like the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Tigor EV, and Tata Tiago EV.
The Punch EV is constructed on Tata’s latest pure EV architecture, acti.ev (advanced connected tech-intelligent electric vehicle). This new acti.ev modular platform is anticipated to offer a range of 300-600 kilometres, depending on the specific model and battery configuration.
For the Punch EV, a range of 300-400km seems to be suitable. The platform signifies a substantial enhancement over the Gen 1 architecture and incorporates significant changes compared to the internal combustion engine (ICE) platform, as reported by Autocar.
2024 Tata Punch EV: Exterior, Interior And Battery
Of all the Tata EVs, the Punch EV’s design differs most from its ICE equivalent. The front end is modelled after the Nexon EV, and it resembles a reduced-scale version of that vehicle in many ways.
There’s a new full-width LED light bar, a front bumper with a faux silver skid plate and a split headlamp arrangement with trapezoidal housing for the main cluster. Moreover, there’s a dual-tone rear bumper and new alloy wheels, but the side profile and rear are largely unaltered. It also has the first-ever frunk on a Tata EV.
The Tata Punch EV will feature an all-new 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster, a new two-spoke steering wheel, and a jewelled rotary drive selector in the centre console. A teaser image on Tata’s website also indicates an all-new HVAC control panel with toggle switches and haptic buttons, similar to the Nexon EV.
The top-spec Punch EV will include a 360-degree camera, leatherette seats, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, connected car technology, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, cruise control, a sunroof, and the new Arcade EV app suite. Some of these features are unique for a vehicle of this size.
In terms of technical specifications, the Punch EV will be available in two variants: Standard and Long Range, with battery packs of 25kWh and 35kWh, respectively. The former only gets a 3.3kW AC charger, whereas the latter gets a 7.2kW AC charger that also supports DC fast charging.
The Tata Punch EV is strategically positioned to compete with the Citroen eC3. It will be slotted between the Tiago EV MR and the Nexon EV MR, indicating an expected price range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
