Amid the speculations, where it is being claimed that internal combustion (ICE) car sales will stop soon, Mercedes-Benz has clarified that it will continue to fulfill the demand for fuel-powered models beyond 2030.

While giving a green signal to the ICE models, the company’s CEO has confirmed that Mercedes-Benz will continue to sell combustion-engined cars even in 2030. The strategy clearly indicates that despite being inclined towards EVs, the company also aims to dominate the ICE segment in the market.

To make the plan a reality, the company is also developing the latest hybrid-focused four-cylinder engine in partnership with Engine Geely. It is expected to break the cover in 2026, which will meet the new Euro 7 emissions standards.

Here’s What CEO Says About ICE Models

As per the details shared by Auto Car, quoting the top official Ola Källenius, where he said, ” We’ve got the powertrain line-up and we have the infrastructure to continue to produce (combustion-engined vehicles). It’s almost like we will have a whole new fresh line-up in 2027 that can carry us well into the 2030s.”

The company has also made some modifications to its sales forecast, going from a 50 percent target by 2025 to up to 50 percent of the sales target. It will be either from electric or plug-in hybrid models in the second half of the decade.

lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries in Future?

To make it more adaptable and offer a seamless transition for EVs to customers, Mercedes is also planning to reduce the battery costs by 30 percent. The planned target has been set for upcoming years, where the brand aims to give more priority to lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries.

It has been reported that some of the upcoming EV models are expected to use LFP batteries, which will be sourced from BYD.
