The newly built Surat airport in Gujarat now has been listed as an international airport in India. The decision came a month after when the proposal was sent to the ministry for approval. Later, after getting the green signal, the airport was declared as an international one.
While sharing the news across social media platforms, ANI tweeted an official statement by the ministry saying, “It is hereby declared that Surat Airport in Gujarat is an International Airport with immediate effect.”

It has been informed by the ministry that the decision will not only transform tourism in the state but also benefit foreign travellers. The operation will also contribute to the state’s economic growth as well.
Surat Airport Domestic Connectivity
Meanwhile, the airport offers flight connectivity to multiple domestic destinations. The list includes Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Goa Mopa, Hyderabad, Pune, Belgaum, Jaipur, Udaipur, Indore, Diu and Kishangarh. When it comes to international routes, it offers connectivity via Sharjah to other destinations.
Passenger Handling Capacity
As per the official details, the new terminal is capable of handling over 600 international passengers and 1,200 domestic travellers during the peak hours. It also has the provision to stretch the capacity to 3,000 passengers. The airport has a 2906 X 45 metres huge runway, which allows the Code ‘C’ type aircraft to operate.
