At the recent New York Auto Show, the World Car Awards saw electric vehicles take the spotlight.
The 2024 Kia EV9 won the prestigious titles of World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle at the 2024 World Car Awards, as per Press Release.
Judged by a panel of 100 esteemed automotive journalists representing 29 countries, the awards recognized the Kia EV9 for its innovative design, spacious seven-seat interior, and competitive pricing. Built on the E-GMP platform, the EV9 stands out as the first Kia model to boast fourth-generation battery technology, enhancing its performance.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Ho Sung Song, President and CEO at Kia, stated, “We are hugely honored that the 2024 EV9 has been named the World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle. This triumph is a testament to our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and design excellence. The Kia EV9’s continued success will drive us to keep delivering exceptional vehicles that redefine the driving experience for customers around the world.”
Since its inception in 2003, the World Car Awards have been synonymous with automotive excellence and leadership on a global scale. Prior to this year’s triumph, Kia had already secured three wins at the awards, with the Telluride named World Car of the Year, the Soul EV winning World Urban Car in 2020, and the Kia EV6 GT taking home the title of World Performance Car of the Year in 2023.
Hyundai also made waves with its Ioniq 5 N, boasting a powerful dual-motor all-wheel-drive system generating up to 641 bhp and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.25 seconds, as reported by HT Auto.
In the electric vehicle category, Volvo’s EX30 emerged victorious as the World Urban Car, outshining the BYD Dolphin and Lexus LBX.
Meanwhile, the BMW i5 / 5-Series emerged victorious in the World Luxury Car category, outshining rivals with its turbocharged engine and sleek design.
And in a surprising turn, the Toyota Prius took home the title of World Car Design of the Year, impressing over contenders like the Ford Bronco and Ferrari Purosangue with its sportier and elegant new look.
