A Delhi-bound Akasa Air flight made an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport on Saturday after one of the passengers claimed to have a “bomb in his bag”. The flight was carrying 185 passengers.
The Pune-Delhi flight made an emergency landing at 12:42 am as the bomb threat caused panic among the co-passengers and the crew.
The flight was immediately diverted and made an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport. A team of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS) was immediately called in to check the passenger’s bag but nothing was found.
The flight departed for its original destination, Delhi, around 6 am on Saturday after the bomb claim turned out to be a hoax.
The passenger was taken into custody by Mumbai police and an investigation was launched into the matter.
A relative, who was travelling with the accused, told police that the passenger took medicine for chest pain which affected his mental condition and he was blabbering things.
“Akasa Air flight QP 1148, flying from Pune to Delhi at 12.07 am on October 21, 2023, and carrying 185 passengers and six crew members on board, received a security alert shortly after take-off. This comes less than a month after an Akasa Air flight made an emergency landing in Varanasi after a bomb threat was made on social media.
According to news agency PTI, the flight, QP 1498, carrying 166 people made an emergency landing in Mumbai as per all safety protocols after the airline received a bomb threat message on social media.
The captain received an “emergency alert” from the Varanasi Air Traffic Controller following which it landed in Varanasi airport.
