Axar Patel along with Ravichandran Ashwin ran through the English batting unit as India wrapped up the Third Test in Ahmedabad within 2 days at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. The victory also meant India going up 2-1 against England in the four-match Test series.
With spinners wreaking havoc, the visitors could only manage 81 on the scoreboard after being bundled out for 112 in their first innings. India too faced a batting collapse thanks to Joe Root’s maiden fifer but with only a 49 target set by England, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill finished the business well within the second day of the Pink ball Test.
Notably, England are now out of contention for a place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship.
Seeing their home country win comprehensively by 10 wickets, desi fans had memes that summed up what everyone witnessed on the field.

Having bowled England out for 112 on Day 1, India began the day 99 for 3 but England triggered a collapse as India slumped from 98 for 2 to be all out for 145. England captain Joe Root, at best a part-time spinner, took staggering career-best figures of 5 for 8 — his first five-wicket haul in first-class cricket — to hasten India’s demise. Left-arm spinner Jack Leach bagged 4 for 54. Only four Indian batsmen reached the double figures in their first innings, with Rohit Sharma being the highest scorer with 66 off 96 balls.
