The record-breaking rainstorm in Dubai in the last few days surpassed UAE’s annual rainfall average. The ‘heaviest rainfall in the past 75 years’ caused chaos in the city with waterlogged streets, closed schools and airports, and battered infrastructure. Amid the challenges, people are extending their helping hands ensuring each other’s safety. In one such incident, a couple was offered food and a bed as they got stuck inside an IKEA outlet in Dubai during the heavy rains.
Leanne Marrie, an Instagram user, shared a video on her handle. It features her parents receiving support from the IKEA staff who, upon realising that the couple were the last customers and intended to sleep inside a car, offered them food and a bed. Expressing gratitude to them for their generosity, the woman wrote, “Thank you so much @ikeauae for your kindness and generosity for accommodating my parents last 16th April 2024.”
Narrating how her parents got stranded at the store, she wrote, “My parents were stuck in Dubai as the roads were closed due to the heavy rain and floods. Thankfully, they went to Ikea for Dinner as they were around the area.”
Ikea Dubai, in a sheer display of kindness and empathy, not only offered a bed to the couple for a comfortable stay but also provided them with the required toiletries, pillows and even free breakfast. In the video, we can see the various items her parents were offered during their stay at Ikea. Moved by the kind gesture, the woman further wrote, “We are really grateful to Ikea for taking care of my parents and ensuring their safety.”
The now-viral video received a lot of applause from the users for the company and its staff. However, a section of people also joked saying that they would be heading to Ikea the next time it rains heavily in their area. “I know where I am going when it’s cloudy next time,” said a user. Another user found it heartwarming as he wrote, “So heartwarming! Thank you @ikeauae for all you did for their family.” An individual noted, “To be stuck at IKEA is a bucket list thing!”
