Maharashtra has been in the spotlight as 13 constituencies, including the important six seats in Mumbai, have their voting day on May 20. Residents of Mumbai voted in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. This also marks the final polling process in the state, which has been conducted over five phases, i.e., April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20. The voting started at 7 a.m. However, one voter who caught the attention of many was a 101-year-old man who came out to his designated polling booth.
Not only young people, but senior citizens have also come out to exercise their democratic duties. Recently, a picture of a 101-year-old man named Karkhanis has been going viral as he came to vote at the Raheja College polling booth. His commitment and will to vote have turned out to be an inspiration for many people in the country. According to reports, Karkhanis is a retired officer in the Indian Army. Karkhanis efforts have impressed many people on social media.
The Mumbai Police shared a picture of him on their official Instagram account and captioned it, “101 reasons why you should not miss voting today. Setting an example for all, a 101-year-old retired Army officer, Mr. Karkhanis, today reached the polling booth at Raheja College to cast his vote. Our officers at Santacruz Pstn made sure that he didn’t face any difficulty.”

As soon as the picture was uploaded by them, it instantly went viral. People were highly impressed by the old man and went to the comments section to appreciate him and thank him for serving as an incredible example for everyone. A user wrote, “Such an inspiration. My 98-year-old grandfather also voted today. Good job, Mumbai Police.” A user commented, “Respect to Mumbai Police for helping out the elderly and managing things so well.”
