If your child wants to experience the joy of flying a plane, then the Royal Air Force Museum Midlands situated in Cosford, England, offers you a chance. As reported on The Sun’s website, The Museum encompasses a huge space with exhibitions and memorabilia. A Midlands Playground is also located just outside it. The playground opened in 2021. The official website calls it the “family-friendly aviation-themed playground perfect for youngsters who dream of becoming pilots”. Inside the playground is a pretend control tower, for any kids who want to become air traffic controllers. Besides this speciality, what’s the best thing about it? This place is free to visit.
Other points of attraction for the children include a mini hangar with a play aircraft to climb. Some more interactive experiences include physical training instructor stations, air traffic control, and refuelling missions. There is also a slide and climbing frame to enjoy, as well as outdoor seating for parents to take a break. Parents have appreciated the playground. One of the mothers told The Sun, “Before returning home [my kids] tried out the new play park and they absolutely loved this to the degree that we had to prize them away so that we could go home”.
There is a new Flight Zone as well which lets you take a selfie in a spitfire — a single-engined, single-seat British fighter aircraft of World War II. You can also try out a flight simulator of an RAF Eurofighter Typhoon with a 360-degree virtual reality experience. If you aim to visit something more than the playground, there are no travel expenses for the museum as well. There are many free exhibitions including the National Cold War Exhibition. People can also see RAF Stories over 100 years and many of the aircraft and uniforms used in World War II. A cafe and gift shop are also on-site.
While the entire attraction is free, donations are accepted. To get to the museum people can get the train to Cosford, or it’s a 40-minute drive from Birmingham.
