Serge Feeleenger has mastered the unique skill of painting with ten brushes simultaneously. Over more than a decade, he developed this technique out of frustration with the frequent need to change brushes during his creative process. Initially beginning with three brushes on his right hand, he progressively added more, ultimately accomplishing the remarkable feat of attaching a brush to every finger on both hands.
Artist Serge, describing his inventive painting approach to CGTN, revealed, “In the beginning, I attached three brushes to the fingers on my right hand and experimented with painting this way. I discovered it to be cool and remarkably convenient, as the colours seamlessly blended. Later, I applied the same technique to my left hand, bringing the total to 10 brushes”.
Serge Feeleenger, a self-taught artist in traditional oil painting techniques, initially mastered conventional methods before introducing the art of using multiple paintbrushes simultaneously while painting. His artistic journey spans various styles, including expressionism and hyperrealism. Recently, Feeleenger has been actively showcasing and promoting his skills in the United States, in addition to his exhibitions held in Germany, Italy, and Poland over the years.
Drawing with both hands simultaneously is a known practice, but it is the first instance of someone painting with two brushes at the same time.
Serge Feeleenger explains, “Each of us has a unique and diverse personality. I’ve realized that each finger has its signature style. When these individual styles come together on canvas, it creates a wonderful and intricate colour symphony.”
The painter has numerous inventions and a wealth of ideas. Unfortunately, he encounters challenges in securing a patent for both his instruments and his 10-brushes technique due to the prohibitive costs involved.
Tips For Painting With More Than One Brush:
Begin your painting process by selecting 3–5 colours of paint. Dip the brush into one colour, then scoop up a small amount of another colour. Apply the blended colours onto a paper surface. Experiment by loading the brush with three colours for varied effects.
