Nainital School, Attended By Only One Student, In Danger Of Getting Closed Permanently
The school is situated in Ghugghukham, in Nainital, Uttarakhand, and attended only by a single student, who depends on two teachers for education.

We commonly hear of schools crammed up with hundreds, even thousands of students, having only a handful of teachers to teach them. However, this one school in Uttarakhand is making headlines for its surprisingly low number of students.

In the last few years, the number of students at this primary school in Ghugghukham has come down to dangerously low numbers. Ghugghukham is in Nainital, Uttarakhand. The school is attended only by a single student, who depends on two teachers for education. This is contrary to what we normally hear, that there are not enough teachers in government schools, and because of that the students are unable to get a quality education.

Ghugghukham Gram Sabha has a population of little over 500 and is located at a distance of 19 km from the district headquarters. This primary school is the only school close to the place, and the lack of children at the school is a big concern for the authorities since it is the only one in the area.

According to the principal of the primary school, Shabana Siddiqui, parents are getting their children admitted to private schools in the city, after removing their names from this school. She revealed that this is the reason behind the decrease in the number of children, which is now down to one, who is being looked after by two teachers.

Jagmohan Soni, the Chief Education Officer informed that they will inspect the primary school, and make every effort to bring back the children. If the school remains the way it is at the moment, they will transfer the teachers to another school, where the strength of students is higher. Now, this poses the question that if the teachers are transferred, then will they close the only school located at the Ghugghukham Gram Sabha?

What's your reaction?
