A video featuring an Indian family placing their nameplate on their newly purchased home in Ireland has sparked a heated debate online raising questions on immigration and identity. It was shared by a user, who identifies as an Irish citizen, along with the caption, “Another house bought up by Indians. Our tiny island is being colonised by a country of 1.5 billion people.” His remarks quickly gained the attention of social media users who criticised him for having a narrow viewpoint. Since being shared, the video has clocked in over 5 million views.

Many users expressed their disapproval of the Irish man’s comments saying that if he is so unimpressed by immigrants, he must ask his government to change their policies.
A user commented, “Colonised? Dude they paid for it and bought it cause some Irish was in desperate need of money. It’s not anything unlawful. If you’re so concerned ask your legislators and govt to make protective laws.”

Another user mentioned, “LKB thru bought the home after earning money legally and paying taxes. Would you prefer these folks or someone who will come and occupy them and eat ur tax in some welfare money?”

A third user went on to suggest, “If you work hard, you can achieve this too. Moaning behind the keyboard won’t give you anything mate.”

Meanwhile, the other section of users supported the post’s claims.
A user claimed that people often question how Indians can purchase homes when many Irish citizens cannot. They pointed out that a quick look through the Facebook group ‘Indians buying houses in Ireland’ reveals that entire families, including relatives still in India, pool their money together with the goal of chain migration.

However, this was not the end of the post. A long string of posts featuring screenshots of Indians accused of crimes in Ireland was provided by the user. He further emphasised how Irish citizens have been competing with people from all around the globe for houses in their own country.
There are currently 201 Indians claiming asylum in Ireland. You have nuclear weapons and a space program, but we should look after your people? pic.twitter.com/4ewRkOj0Su
