A video of a Coldplay India fan doing a happy dance after securing Mumbai concert tickets has been going viral on social media.

Coldplay is returning to India after nine long years and will be performing at Mumbai’s iconic DY Patil Stadium in January 2025. The tickets for the first two shows – January 18 and 19 – went live on Sunday at noon on BookMyShow. However, due to “phenomenal demand” from Coldplay India fans, the British boy band added a third date to the show – January 21. The tickets for this concert, which was announced last minute, went live the same day at 2 pm. While some fans battled long virtual queues and technical hiccups, those fortunate enough to snag tickets were over the Moon. One such fan who was able to secure the ticket wasn’t able to control his excitement. He did a happy dance and a video of it is now gaining traction on social media.

Coldplay India fans urge band to ban resale of tickets

While some Coldplay fans are celebrating, others are left disappointed as tickets for all three shows sold out quickly, only to reappear on resale websites at inflated prices. Frustrated by this, several fans have started a petition, calling on the band to ban ticket resales. “Urge Coldplay to prohibit reselling of their January 2025 India shows tickets – sign the petition!” wrote a Coldplay fan on X while sharing the link to the petition.

The petition read, “Loyal fans are left disillusioned as an overwhelming percentage of these tickets have been snapped up by ticket resellers who are usurping their love for music and reselling these tickets at an inflated markup, sometimes up to 10 times the original price.”

“…we’re urging Coldplay to set preventive measures that deter ticket reselling, ensuring that real fans can share in the magic of their music. We are certain that the band shares our sentiment – that music should be for everyone, not just those who can afford inflated prices,” it added.

The petition further highlighted how imposing a ban on the resale of tickets could make a difference.

The fans urged the band to set up a system where people can “return tickets they cannot use directly through official channels”. This move will help true Coldplay fans to see the band live.

It further says that even if a blanket ban cannot be imposed on the resale of tickets, the band can implement a cap on resale prices. “This would reduce the outrageous markups currently being seen, making it possible for real fans to purchase tickets without paying exorbitant prices,” the petition further reads.

“Help us make live music fairer,” they pleaded, urging other Coldplay India fans to “sign the petition and make their voice heard”.
