Recently, a trend has been going viral in China, where the youth workforce has started listing their bosses, colleagues, and jobs for sale on second-hand e-commerce platforms. It has been found that people are selling them on Xianyu, which is Alibaba’s well-known e-commerce platform for used goods or second-hand products.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the youths in China are resorting to this to ‘wash off the work smell’. In China, ban wei, or ‘smell of work’, is getting extremely intense and refers to the feeling of mental and physical exhaustion that people feel after a long day of work. It has been found that many people are selling their jobs and colleagues on Xianyu, one of China’s largest e-commerce platforms for used products, just to de-stress themselves from the burden of their work.

On the website some of the listings include many ‘annoying bosses’, ‘terrible jobs’, and ‘hated colleagues’, that are up for sale in a price range of Rs 4 to Rs 9 lakh.

This trend in China highlights that people are now resorting to these lighthearted ways to deal with the pressure of work and escape from the stressful work culture.

According to the South China Morning Post, one user revealed that he is selling his job for Rs 90,000. He added that the job pays him Rs 30,000 a month, and the buyers can gain their investment amount in three months. He also revealed that the main reason he has listed his job on the e-commerce platform is that he doesn’t want to wake up early.

Another user has listed his co-worker on the platform for being extremely sarcastic. He has listed his colleague for Rs 45,000.
