WhatsApp video-calling feature is set to gain a new upgrade in the form of a Picture-in-Picture mode. Android O developer’s preview has hinted at the feature inside the 2.17.265 version of WhatsApp. The new Picture-in-Picture mode is enabled by default on the upcoming version of WhatsApp. As per a tweet by WABetaInfo, a particular API of the Android 8.0 was used by WhatsApp to enable this feature.
The feature will come as a huge step-up to WhatsApp’s video-call offering. Not much about the upcoming Picture-in-Picture feature is known as of now. The image in the tweet just shows a Picture-in-Picture mode in WhatsApp video calling being tested on the Android O developer’s preview. Apart from that, it is unclear if the Picture-in-Picture window can be dragged around the screen or if it will remain fixed at one particular place. It is also uncertain if and when the feature will come to iOS.

Using the Picture-in-Picture mode, WhatsApp users will be able to continue texting on the chat platform even while on a video call within the app. In a similar update, WhatsApp will let users play YouTube videos within their WhatsApp chats.
