New Delhi: A new online dating app, TrulyMadly, which is based on Tinder has been custom-built for India keeping its social and cultural nuances in consideration.
The app has been developed to cater to the 18-26 year-old Indian demographic and similar to Tinder, it allows for private conversations. However, as the app has been adapted to serve the Indian populace, TrulyMadly uses trust-based scores to verify its users.
You need to connect your Facebook profile to get started with the app and further provide other social media verifications, your phone number, and also an offline photo-ID proof to score high on trust points. TrulyMadly's algorithm checks that you are single and active on social networks, and your score thus increases, TechCrunch reported.
One key difference between Tinder and TrulyMadly is that the latter puts its focus on compatibility quizzes and scoring. Co-founder Sachin Bhatia said that they were not being location specific because this works better from an Indian context, and that people in smaller towns often want to meet and date people who are in bigger towns.
Users can 'like' or 'Hide' the matches suggested discreetly and once there is a mutual 'Like', both parties can then take the conversation to Facebook or WhatsApp.
So far, the app has garnered 200,000 downloads and around a third of its users are female.
TrulyMadly was founded last year, initially with an online site only before the founding trio realized the need for mobile apps. The mobile app for Android was rolled out last August while the iOS version followed in February this year. An app for Windows Phone is expected soon.
TrulyMadly is preparing to add more to its in-app messaging feature - including compatibility quizzes and ice-breaker intros - as it bids to keep users engaged inside its ecosystem.
