The anticipated Mobile World Congress 2016 edition is all set to kick-start starting February 22 in Barcelona, Spain and among a host of high-technology consumer unveilings, automotive technology and special guests, the highlight of the four-day technology extravaganza draws most attention for the number of next-gen smartphones on display.
At the MWC 2016, one of the most looked forward to smartphones come from Samsung which will succeed its existing Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphone lineup.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will carry on the same curved edged features as the predecessors but there will also be a 'premium' version with a 4K screen and a 14-core processor that could make its way to the Asian market in March.
Prior to the official launch, a teaser video of the Galaxy S7 had been leaked which showed off the device featuring waterproof capability and wireless charging feature.
The new Galaxy smartphones are speculated to have metal and glass design. With a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display (on Galaxy S7) and a 5.5-inch display (on Galaxy S7 Edge), the smartphones are also expected to come in a true 'black' colour option other than the standard colour choices of silver, white, and gold.
The phones are further likely to come in 32 GB and 64 GB storage choices with an option for expansion up to 128 GB. In terms of battery backup, the S7 is expected to have a 3000mAh battery, up from the predecessor S6's 2550mAh battery, while the S7 Edge will draw its juice from a 3600mAh battery.
In terms of camera, it is speculated that the new Galaxy S7 phones might see a 'downgrade' in camera resolution but offer f/1.7 aperture to perform even better in low light settings. The smartphones may come with new Snapdragon 820 in the US market, sticking with its own silicon -- Samsung's Exynos processors -- elsewhere.
The Mobile World Congress 2016 runs from February 22 to February 25 in Barcelona, Spain.
