Android Users Finally Get iMessage But You Don’t Have To Thank Apple For It
Android users cannot use iMessage because Apple doesn't want to break its iPhone-exclusivity but other companies now have a solution.

Google has tried everything to get Apple to offer iMessage on Android and we don’t see that happening anytime soon. So, now it is up to other brands to make this into a reality and that company is Carl Pei’s Nothing.

That’s right, the brand has announced its new messaging app called Nothing Chats which will let you switch to the blue side, which is Google’s take on iMessage. Nothing Chats will be coming to the Phone 2 users in the coming days and Pei says that all users have the right to use any app they want. So how is Nothing doing this?

It has developed the app in partnership with Sunbird which already has the tech which enables iMessage to run on non-Apple devices. The developer has run its own app on the Play Store since its launch in 2022 and already got 10,000 downloads. But if you need to use iMessage on the Phone 2 you will need to sign in using your Apple ID which might invite some concerns with Apple but at least the messages remain secure behind end-to-end encryption which is also pivotal to comply with the privacy rules of Sunbird.

Nothing says that in the beta avatar, Nothing Chats will offer features like single messaging, group chats, live typing indicator for the other person, full-res media sharing and voice notes. However, other options like read receipts and message reactions/replies will be coming soon.

The company is bringing this feature to countries like the US where the battle between iMessage and RCS Messages have been going for years. We’re not sure if Nothing has any plan to bring the app to Phone 1 users but those using the Phone 2 can try out the Chats app from November 17 and download it via the Play Store. iMessage is not very common for users in India, so we don’t see the company talking about the feature for users in the country.
