Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage’s film ‘Paradise’ has made history by winning the Kim Jiseok Award for Best Film at the Busan International Film Festival 2023. Starring Malayalam actors Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran, the film has achieved another milestone with four nominations at the prestigious 17th Asian Film Awards. Produced by Newton Cinema and presented by Mani Ratnam and Madras Talkies, ‘Paradise’ has been nominated in four categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Editing. The Asian Film Awards, presented by the Asian Film Awards Academy, are renowned for recognising excellence in cinematic achievements and promoting cultural diversity and talent.

Prasanna Vithanage, the director of Paradise, and Anushka Senanayake, responsible for the screenplay, have received nominations in the respective categories. Additionally, A. Sreekar Prasad has been nominated for Best Editing. These nominations highlight the film’s success and quality, showcasing its impact on the cinematic landscape.

Paradise, presented by Mani Ratnam and Madras Talkies, boasts an exceptional ensemble cast featuring Roshan Mathew, Darshana Rajendran, Shyam Fernando, and Mahendra Perera. The film’s cinematography by Rajeev Ravi, music by K, and sound design by Tapas Nayak contribute to the richness of the storyline.

With releases planned in English, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, and Sinhalese languages, ‘Paradise’ is poised to entertain a diverse audience.

In addition to Paradise, another film titled Family, produced by Newton Cinema, is set to hit theatres in February 2024. Both films contribute to the growing recognition of Sri Lankan cinema on the international stage.
