The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) on Tuesday withdrew its decision to ban the release of Malayalam films in theatres. Dileep, the chairman of FEUOK, said that all the clashes and arguments between the theatre owners and producers would be resolved through discussions, confirming that FEUOK was withdrawing its decision to not release Malayalam films in the theatre.
Theatre owners had earlier decided not to release any Malayalam films on February 22. FEOUK argued that it was impossible for them to buy the projectors the producers demanded. This was mainly because their prices had skyrocketed and it was not affordable to theatre owners.
Apart from that, they also argued that the OTT release of films before the 42-day policy should be stopped. Many producers tend to release their films before the 42-day gap because of more viewership and better quality. While the FEOUK demanded producers’ association not release their films on OTT platforms before at least 42 days, the latter has yet to agree.
The producers’ association further said that they were not ready for any further discussion with FEOUK, saying the ban on the release of films was an irresponsible step. They said that it was always the producer’s right to screen a film of better quality and that theatre owners should invest in expensive projectors. They also said that OTT platforms have offered them better quality.
Amid the ongoing disagreement between the association of producers and theatre owners, the cinema halls are filled with viewers for Gireesh AD directed Premalu, Mammootty-starrer Bramayugam, and the survival thriller film Manjummel Boys.
