Will act if onion price doesn't come down, says KV Thomas
KV Thomas is under fire for not being able to apply the brake to soaring price.

New Delhi: Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Prof KV Thomas on Monday said that the government was doing everything possible to bring the onion pricen down.

Thomas, who is under fire for not being able to apply the brake to soaring price, said, "We are talking to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. I am hearing that Maharashtra onion has not come to the market due to rains. Farmers are hoarding it expecting a much better price. We are checking with state governments".

He admitted that the transportation is also is an another issue. He said, "This is the late Kharif season; usually farmers do not keep onions for a long time due to rains".

However, he hastily added that the farmers must get a good price, but prices cannot go beyond a certain level. Thomas assured that the government will take action, if the prices go beyond a certain level. "But let us try to solve it by talking instead of penal actions," he said. .

He informed the media that he will be talking to all stake holders in a day. The retail price of onion has crossed Rs 80 per kg in Delhi.
