The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday released its fifth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and fielded Pallavi Dempo from Goa. With this, the executive director of Dempo Industries, Pallavi Dempo became the first woman candidate in the BJP’s Goa poll history. The coastal state of Goa has two Lok Sabha seats, North Goa and South Goa.
The party has fielded 49-year-old Pallavi Dempo from South Goa, which Congress leader Francisco Sardinha currently holds. BJP has won this seat only twice since 1962.
Voting for the two Lok Sabha seats in Goa will be held during the third phase of voting on May 7.
Who is BJP’s First Woman Candidate From Goa Pallavi Dempo?
A Goan entrepreneur and educationist, Pallavi holds a graduate degree in chemistry and a postgraduate degree in business management (MBA) from MIT, Pune. She oversees the media and real estate arm of Dempo Industries as its executive director.
She also serves as the president of the Indo-German Educational and Cultural Society which contributes to the cultural enrichment between Germany and Goa.
Pallavi Dempo is also part of the managing committee of the Goa Cancer Society and serves on the core committee of the All India Management Association’s Women’s Council – AIMA Aspire.
Her husband Shrinivas Dempo is a renowned industrialist who heads the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI).
Pallavi expressed gratitude on being given the Lok Sabha ticket from South Goa and said,” We will try our level best to win this seat”. She also hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying his “vision inspires every individual”.
“I am grateful to the BJP for this nomination and I accept this in deep humility… We will try our level best to win this seat. I’ve always believed in Narendra Modi’s vision of leadership overall and I’m so sure his vision actually empowers every individual, especially equal opportunities which are given to every section of the society. We will try our level best and thank you so much once again for this nomination..” Pallavi Dempo said.
