New Delhi: A demand was made in the Rajya Sabha to set up a monument in Parliament House at the spot where Bhagat Singh had thrown bombs inside the Central Legislative Assembly in 1929. Making the demand during Zero Hour, KC Tyagi (JD-U) said there should be a monument in place to commemorate the bomb throwing incident by Bhagat Singh, which is an important event in India's freedom struggle.
He also demanded that there should be a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the freedom fighter who laid down his life at a young age. Tyagi also recalled how Bhagat Singh wanted early death be given to him, as he said the freedom struggle was associated with him and feared that being a human being he could commit some error which could tarnish his image.
Bhagat Singh, at a young age of 23 years, along with Batukeshwar Dutt threw two bombs inside the Central Legislative Assembly on April 8, 1929, from the Visitor's Gallery. As smoke from the bomb filled the Hall, they shouted "Inquilab Zindabad" and showered leaflets which claimed that the act was done to oppose the Trade Disputes and the Public Safety Bill being presented in the Central Assembly.
