RSS Plans to Expand Base in Assam, to Hold Mega Gathering
Over 2,000 prominent names from the political, cultural and intelligentsia circles of Guhawati will attend the public meet and 35,000 swayamsevaks will also be in attendance.

New Delhi: The RSS will hold Luitporiya Hindu Sammelan in Guwahati, Assam, later this month in an attempt to bring the Sangh ideology closer to the people of the northeastern state.

The organistaion has planned its biggest ever gathering and Mohan Bhagwat, the RSS chief, will give the main address. He will be present there for two days – January 21 and 22, when he will hold a public meeting.

On the first day, 20 Janjaati Rajas (Tribal Kings) have been invited. Heads of several tribes, including Khasi, Mising, Hajong and Tiwa, will be present. The list also includes 2,000 prominent names from the political, cultural and intelligentsia circles. And 35,000 swayamsevaks will also be in attendance.

Speaking to News18, Assam Prachar Pramukh Shankar Das said, “It was in 1994 when 4,000 swayamsevaks gathered in the north-east. In 2018, we are going to see a record gathering in the region. This is one place where all outfits and leaders hold their sammelans except for the RSS. But we are going to change that low profile presence.”

The objective, he said, is to instil pride and esteem in the workers of the Sangh. “The big carnival will boost the self-confidence of the swayamsevaks.”

He added, “The event is so big that every karyakarta will have a responsibility. There is a vibhaag for every worker to look into. Through these fests and meetings we will have the karyakarta nirmaan. It is going to make them a responsible swayamsevak. We have called people who are not affiliated to RSS as well. This will introduce the Sangh ideology to them.”
