New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal was humble in defeat. His Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had a poor showing in Delhi, which it had won in December, and was completely routed out in Varanasi, where Kejriwal trailed rival Narendra Modi by a huge margin of over two lakh votes. The AAP, however, led in Punjab, where it gained four seats and Kejriwal was thankful about it.
"This is a good beginning for AAP. No one thought about Punjab seats. However, we could have done better in Delhi," Kejriwal told mediapersons.
He, however, added that his struggle for a corruption-free India will continue. "This is just the beginning. This is a long fight. It is going to take long. These were our first elections and this is a good beginning. We respect the people's verdict," he said.
Kejriwal also thanked the people of Varanasi "no matter what the result".
