Protests erupted in Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema region as thousands of people took to the streets on Tuesday to voice their dissatisfaction against the Singanamala YSRCP candidate, M. Veeranjaneyulu.
The ruling YSR Congress Party has faced criticism following the announcement of its list of 175 candidates for the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Expressing dissatisfaction over Veeranjaneyulu’s nomination, senior YSRCP leader Satyanarayana Reddy urged the party high command to replace him with a stronger contender.
“We stand with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and want the party to secure Singanamala. However, we cannot support the declared candidate. A faction within Singanamala’s party has misused the trust bestowed by the Chief Minister. We are not ready to support this candidate and want the high command to replace the same with a stronger candidate,” Satyanarayana Reddy told the media.
These protests arise at a crucial time for the YSRCP, as they prepare for their toughest electoral battle yet ahead of the elections.
With the BJP-TDP and JSP forming an alliance, reports indicate an increasingly challenging landscape for the ruling party. Given that the protests are unfolding in the Rayalaseema region, long considered the stronghold of the Jagan Mohan Reddy family, their impact is expected to extend far beyond the contested seat.
On March 16, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP announced the list of its candidates for 24 out of 25 Lok Sabha constituencies on March 16. The candidates include ten from the Backward Classes, four from the Scheduled Castes, and nine from Other Castes. However, the candidate for Anakapalle was withheld for reasons unknown.
