Jammu: By dragging the name of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah into the controversy surrounding the death of Syed Yusuf in police custody, PDP was making desperate attempts to grab power in the state, ruling NC on Sunday alleged.
"PDP is power hungry. By naming Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the custodial death of National Conference worker Syed Mohammad Yousuf, PDP is making desperate attempt to grab power," former provincial president and MLC Ajay Sadhotra said at a public meeting.
"It is a political stunt. PDP leaders want power at any cost. They have launched a vicious campaign against the Chief Minister, regardless of the fact that he ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter on his own," he said.
Sadhotra said that PDP's tirade against Omar shows the frustration of its leadership in view of the fact that all its efforts to destabilise the coalition government have failed.
He asked the PDP leadership to wait for next elections and not to resort to "cheap" politics to grab power.
"The government is committed to a transparent judicial probe into the incident so that truth comes out," he said.
