Former finance minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram slammed Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) president Amit Shah over his "firecrackers" remark saying, "If BJP loses in Bihar, there will be celebrations and relief among many others - writers, scientists, historians and moderate citizens."
Congress spokesperson Tom Vadakan also criticised Shah for his comments and said people of Bihar will give a fitting reply to BJP, he said, "Is this what the BJP President desires, dividing India? dividing Bihar? The people of Bihar will give a fitting reply. They are not going to fall pray to such comments made at an election rally. These are old games that they have played in Gujarat."
This comes after the BJP president on Thursday said there will be bursting of fire crackers in Pakistan if his party loses Bihar assembly elections. Addressing an election rally in the state, he asked the audience if they wanted crackers to go off in Pakistan while appealing to them to vote for the BJP-led NDA.
Upping the ante against the BJP, Janata Dal United leader KC Tyagi said Shah has insulted the people of Bihar through his comment. "He knows that if the BJP doesn't win the elections - he will have to answer. Therefore, to save himself the embarrassment he's saying these things," Tyagi said.
