New Delhi: Union Tourism and Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved remarkable things in just one year. Addressing Network18's Modi Sarkar Year One Dialogue, he said, "Earlier there was no confidence among the people. They were sad. Now they are confident. It is our major achievement."
Industrialists were worried about the future and Modi government has given them a hope, according to Sharma. However, he added that Modi government is not for the rich people. He said that it was committed towards overall welfare of the nation. "Adani’s daughter does not need Beti Bachao Andolan, Atal Pension Yojana is not for rich peoplem" he said.
He said that India had the greatest heritage and culture, and the biggest pool of youth power. He described that even international magazines of great repute like Time and The Economist were discussing India’s Prime Minister as a sign of changing perception across the world.
Sharma claimed that India was ranked 65th in the World Competitive Index. Under Modi it has jumped to the 52nd spot in 1 year. He said in last one year tourists visiting India has increased manifolds.
Talking about NRIs, he said, "The Prime Minister has elevated India’s stature. Many people are coming back home. The NRIs are investing in many sectors."
He also appreciated Narendra Modi for his foreign policies. "Due to our foreign policies, the Chinese President broke his protocol and came personally to welcome him."
Sharma attacked the Congress saying that their 60 years of rule is not worth discussing. He said, "What we are doing is going to change India for the best." Rubbishing all the claims made by opposition parties, Sharma said, "Opposition thinks we only work for capitalists but we should not concentrate on them. We should continue with our work."
He also thanked Prime Minister for a corruption free government and hailed the evacuation programme by the Centre during the recent crisis in West Asia.
