New Delhi: The Congress has fielded two strong candidates against the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttarakhand. It has fielded Chief Minister Harish Rawat's wife Renuka from Haridwar. Haridwar is currently held by Rawat. His wife will take on BJP candidate and former chief minister Ramesh Pokriyal Nishank.
The Congress has also fielded a senior minister from Pauri-Garhwal. Harak Singh Rawat will fight against former chief minister Major General (retired) BC Khanduri from the constituency. Meanwhile, former CM Vijay Bahuguna's son Saket will contest on a Congress ticket from Tehri-Garhwal.
In Kumaon region, former chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari is contesting on a BJP ticket from Nainital.
In 2009, the Congress won all 5 Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand.
