Bangalore: Karnataka's Advocate General BV Acharya on Sunday tendered his resignation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) all set to stake its claim to form the government in the state.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur, who accepted Acharya's resignation, asked him to continue till alternative arrangements were made, an official press release said.

In the Assembly elections, the BJP won 110 seats in the 224-seat Karnataka Assembly. The Congress won 80 seats, the Janata Dal (Secular) 28 seats and others won six seats.

The BJP will meet Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Monday to stake claim to form the government. The BJP ministry led by BS Yeddyurappa is likely to be sworn in Wednesday, party sources said on Sunday.

The election process has to be completed by May 28 according to the schedule drawn up by the Election Commission.

Yeddyurappa will be formally elected leader of the BJP legislature party on Monday.

He and other state leaders will leave for Delhi for talks with party central leaders after staking claim to form the government.
