Chennai: In another welfare scheme under the "Amma" series, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday launched a maternity care plan under which expectant mothers are provided a bouquet of 11 types of herbal medicines to improve their overall health.
Launching the scheme "Amma Magapperu Sanjeevi" in a simple function at the Secretariat, she distributed packs of herbal medicines to five pregnant women, an official release said.
'Sanjeevi' means panacea in Tamil and the scheme is aimed at strengthening the immune system and thereby improving the overall health of pregnant women.
Today's launch is a follow up to Jayalalithaa's announcement in the assembly on August 25, 2015 of a slew of health schemes.
The schemes include 'Amma Master Health Check-up Plan' and together such schemes were worth over Rs 500 crore.
The Jayalalithaa government has launched a series of schemes under the "Amma" brand such as low-cost eateries "Amma unavagams", "Amma salt" and "Amma drinking water".
