New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Suhail Hindustani was arrested by the Delhi Police on Wednesday in connection with 2008 cash-for-vote scam. He has been arrested for facilitating the cash-for-vote deal under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Sources say he was the main person who acted as the broker between the two groups.

Hindustani, who was also questioned questioned by Delhi Police's Crime Branch, has alleged that former Samajwadi party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh along with Congress leader Ahmed Patel was involved in the cash-for-vote scam after appearing before the police in New Delhi.

Hindustani shot to fame after he became a part of CNN-IBN's sting operation in July 2008, which suggested that former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Congress leader Ahmed Patel offered money to BJP MPs for voting for the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government during a trust vote in June 2008.

Singh is alleged to have masterminded an operation during the 2008 trust vote and used his former aide Sanjeev Saxena to bribe BJP MPs Ashok Argal, Mahavir Bhagora and Faggan Singh Kulaste into voting for the Manmohan Singh government.

The three BJP MPs had waved bundles of notes inside the Lok Sabha on July 22, 2008, before the trust vote.

Saxena has already been arrested in the case. Patel is the political secretary of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
