After Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah pulled up party leaders for making controversial statements over the Dadri lynching and the Jammu and Kashmir beef ban, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also reprimanded the party members for their actions.
Jaitley maintained that the leaders should be careful about the statements they make. "Claiming that it is important that people involved be strongly criticized, Jaitley said, "Extremely disturbing trend that some people have been resorting to vandalism to register their point and views."
However, hitting out at the Sena, Jaitley asserted that the BJP cadre had not indulged in vandalism like them. "There has to be a proper and civilised way to discuss issues rather than resort to vandalism for registering opinion and views," he said.
Facing attack from outside and growing unease within, the BJP chief had reproached several top party leaders for making controversial comments. Shah met party workers after Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced "extreme displeasure" over their actions.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjeev Balyan, Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj and Uttar Pradesh MLA Sangeet Som, an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, were "summoned" to Amit Shah's office on Sunday
Shah warned them against making comments that "threaten to derail" the Modi government's "positive agenda".
