Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has suffered two legal blows on Thursday. The additional chief metropolitan court in Chennai has dismissed the petition filed by the CM seeking her exemption from appearing in court.
The case relates to the non-filing of IT returns from 1991 to 1994.
The court has ordered Jayalalithaa and her associate Sasikala to appear in court on April 10.
The court has also observed that no further petitions will be entertained.
The Supreme Court had in January directed the lower court to complete the trial in four months.
Meanwhile, the special court in Bangalore hearing the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case against Jayalalithaa has also asked her to appear in court on April 5.
Both orders come as a setback for Jayalalithaa as it comes in the thick of her election campaign ahead of the polls on April 24. The AIADMK supremo was campaigning in Namakkal and Salem on Thursday.
