DMK writes to CEC asking for delisting of AIADMK party symbol
The DMK is claiming misuse of the party symbol ever since Jayalalithaa inaugurated a mini bus service.

Chennai: DMK party MP TR Baalu on Monday shot off a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner asking him to delist the AIADMK's party symbol of 'two leaves'.

The DMK has been making representations against what it calls misuse of the party symbol ever since Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated a mini bus service in the city.

The green buses have pictures of 4 leaves similar to the AIADMK's symbol of two leaves. DMK leader Stalin had raised the issue in the Assembly but DMK members were suspended for the day following the chaos. The government had then in a statement clarified that the leaves on the buses were merely decorative and soothing to the eyes and had nothing to do with the party symbol. Stalin had even approached the Madras High Court regarding this issue.

In an earlier letter to the CEC, Baalu had equated the painting of 'two leaves' on the buses with the elephant statues of Mayawati that had to be covered after a court order during elections. Party spokesperson TKS Elangovan said instead of going to all the trouble of scrubbing off the paintings from the buses, the Election Commission could merely delist the AIADMK party symbol citing misuse ahead of the Yercaud bypolls.
