New Delhi: Even as the Amarnath controversy seems to be getting hot again, the Congress is busy preparing for state elections.
The party says it is looking towards the National Conference for a future alliance.
The Congress at its state convention passed a resolution to this effect and officially ended its six-year old ties with Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Relations between the Congress and PDP have been strained for a while and finally the PDP withdrew support to the Ghulam Nabi Azad government last month, following a row over the transfer of the forestland to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
Though the state government withdrew the transfer order, PDP decided to part ways with the Congress and in the end, Azad submitted his resignation as Chief Minister instead of facing a trust vote on the floor of the state Assembly.
