The nominations will be filed on January 24.

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Amit Shah is all set to be re-elected as the party president.

Shah is currently completing former party president Rajnath Singh's (who became the Union Home Minister) term. If re-elected, then this will be Shah's first clear term as a party president.

The nominations will be filed on January 24. As per BJP constitution, Shah can seek another three year term after he was re-elected to head the party.

According to sources, RSS has backed Shah's new term but with some riders. These riders include accommodating adversaries and holding consultations with CMs and senior leaders of the party to appoint heads of state unit.

Many in BJP felt that his presence as a party president is required considering upcoming crucial elections in states like Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and in Kerala and also for the 2017 Uttar Pradesh election and the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Ever since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, he categorically asked his ministers to focus on work and good governance.
