BJP and AAP in a close race in Delhi's Tilak Nagar constituency

New Delhi: Tilak Nagar constituency of Delhi will witness a neck-and-neck fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party in the Assembly elections. The 49-day rule of former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has left a mark on some while others are supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The AAP has an edge over other parties because its former MLA Jarnail Singh's work is being appreciated here. His accessibility has won him some brownie points. The BJP is also in the race but the Municipal Corporation Department under its control has failed to fulfil some of its responsibilities.

"AAP will win from here. Our former MLA Jarnail Singh always helped people and worked from them. The MCD, which come under BJP, does not work. It could not make a hospital even after so many years," says Paramjeet Singh, a resident.

"AAP should come to power as Jarnail Singh comes and meet us as a common man (aam aadmi ki tarah milte hai). Our electricity and water bills have come down," said Gurpreet Singh, a businessman.

But there is also a section which wants BJP to come to power. "BJP should win as there will be a co-ordination between the Centre and the state. Kiran Bedi's entry into BJP will benefit the party a lot," says RL Minocha, another businessman.

There are a few for whom the party does not matter but they want their MLA to work for the welfare of the people.

"It does not matter which party comes to power, it should work for poor people," says Kamaljeet Singh.

The constituency has been traditionally a BJP stronghold but in December 2013 polls, the AAP won the seat.
