Arun Jaitley an outsider, doesn't stand a chance: Amarinder
Amarinder Singh, a former Punjab chief minister, was earlier reluctant to fight Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress has decided to field Captain Amarinder Singh against BJP's Arun Jaitley in Amritsar. Amarinder Singh, a former Punjab chief minister, was earlier reluctant to fight.

He now says he is battle ready and Arun Jaitley is an outsider who doesn't stand a chance.

The Congress leader spoke to CNN-IBN's Jyoti Kamal and claimed that he has done a lot of work in Amritsar. Here is an excerpt of the interview:

Question: Captain Amarinder Singh versus Arun Jaitley - battle royale in Amritsar. Sir an ex-military officer from an army family, how do you take this contest now?

Amarinder Singh: No problem! I've been in so many battles. I started my career in the army and this must be my 13th or 14th election. I have been in the Assembly 5 times, and I have been in Parliament earlier. I have always kept it at that, I have never thought of going into the Rajya Sabha, which is where Mr. Jaitley seems to be going.

Question: Not just you versus Arun Jaitley, it is also the Congress vs the BJP, and with the Akali Dal also putting its might behind Arun Jaitley, how difficult is it going to be?

Amarinder Singh: No election is ever something which you can say is won, you can't just say you're going to win it. I think the people of Amritsar have always given me their affection. The people know me, I have done a lot of work in the infrastructural development of the city. I only say what I can do - if I feel I can't do it, I don't say it, and I tell them I'm sorry this can't be done. I think they appreciate that. Unlike Badal, who says yes to anything and then backs out the next day. He's a liar.

What's your reaction?
