Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of merely paying lip service to fighting graft while doing nothing about corruption and scams in the state.
Talking to media persons in the state capital, BJP state spokesman Vijay Bhadaur Pathak said the fact that so many days after the cabinet decision to hand over the probe of illegal sale of sugar mills to the Lokayukta, the relevant files have still to go to the anti-corruption ombudsman.
Pathak said the state government was going soft on corruption cases against the Mayawati government's officials and ministers, and that people were slowly beginning to understand that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was not true to his words.
"The chief minister himself had spoken of the sugar mill scam on the floor of the state assembly, and the CAG has raised several points. But the files have not travelled six km (the distance from the CM's Office to the Lokayukta's office)," Pathak said, wondering what would be described as lack of will if not this.
In case of the Noida farmhouse scam too, where there are allegations of irregularities in the allotment of plots, the BJP pokesman alleged, the Samajwadi Party (SP) behaved in the same manner. He said the Lokayukta was asking for resources to function better, and the government was silent on his needs.
