Tirupathi: In typical Indira Gandhi stye, Sonia Gandhi spoke in the language of voters her party wants to woo. The 40 Lok Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh makes the state crucial in an election year.
But it's a Government facing anti incumbancy. The TDP is getting ready for a fight and Chiranjeevi, the megastar, has launched his party. Sonia Gandhi attacked the TDP but was quiet on Chiranjeevi.
"Unlike the TDP government which made many promises especially in the field of irrigation, the Congress government under the leadership of Dr Rajashekhar Reddy has given a higher priority to irrigation," she said.
Congress hopes to tie-up with Chiranjeevi's party in the future. In fact, the Congress high command is working on a strategy to tie-up with smaller but influential parties in states to bolster its prospects.
The tour to Andhra Pradesh is Sonia Gandhi's attempt to win over those parties angry with UPA over rising prices.
Sonia Gandhi's worry is understandable. With 40 Lok Sabha seats, she knows AP is very crucial in UPA's victory in the Lok Sabha elections, but she is also aware that it requires more than the famous Gandhi surname to counter the TDP and the star popularity of Chiranjeevi.
