India continue to sit pretty atop the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 points table, Pakistan are fourth, England fifth, Australia jumped to eighth place while Sri Lanka slip to ninth

Australia are finally off the mark in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, the record five-time holders beat Sri Lanka by five wickets at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, October 16 to pick up their first points on the board. Pat Cummins’ side thus leapfrogged Sri Lanka in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 points table as Kusal Mendis and Co. slipped to ninth place. The Aussies are eighth thanks to their clinical win while the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team continue to sit pretty at the top of the pile.

With three wins on the board, the Men in Blue lead the points table ahead of New Zealand courtesy of a superior net run rate. Sri Lanka meanwhile became the first team in the 2023 edition to lose three games, while they are the only side along with New Zealand, who have yet to pick up a single win.

The Indian team meanwhile sit in first place, having a NRR of +1.821, while New Zealand too have six points, but they have an inferior NRR of +1.604.

South Africa will be in action on Tuesday against Netherlands, the Proteas currently sit in third place, with two wins from as many games. They have four points in the bag, and a massive NRR of +2.360 means they could leapfrog India with a win in Dharamsala.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan are fourth, they occupy the final qualifying berth for the semifinals. The Green Army have four points, after their defeat to India, and their NRR is -0.137.

Jos Buttler’s England were handed their second defeat of the 2023 World Cup by Afghanistan on Sunday, the defending champions thus slipped to fifth place with two points and a NRR of -0.084.

The Afghans rose to sixth after picking up their first win from 14 World Cup games, they have two points in the bag, along with a NRR of -0.652.

Bangladesh have registered just one win from three games, and they are in seventh place with a NRR of -0.699.

Australia are eighth with two points from three outings, and a NRR of -0.734. Sri Lanka are ninth with a NRR of -1.532 after their three losses while the Netherlands are rock bottom after two games, with a NRR of -1.800.
