Goa police on Monday filed a complaint against a Delhi-based woman after she allegedly opened a pet carrier on the flight and created panic among the passengers. The police have booked the woman, identified as Alisha Adhana under Section 336 of IPC.
As per media reports, the complaint was filed against the woman for endangering her fellow passengers on a Goa-bound Flight as the accused allegedly opened her pet carrier to calm down the dog which was making noise.
However, the act didn’t go well with the passengers and her co-passengers, who started panicking due to the voice of the pet.
Reportedly, Adhana boarded the flight from Delhi with a family member. As per the airline’s protocol, the pet carrier was to be kept in the cabin but the cage was not to be opened. However, soon after the take-off, the dog started making noise as it was uncomfortable due to the turbulence. To calm the dog down, the accused took him out for a while and kept it on her lap.
The co-passenger, however, objected to the presence of an animal inside the flight following which, the flight manager lodged a complaint.
An Akasa Air spokesperson in a statement on behalf of the airline said, “An incident involving a pet owner occurred on flight QP1378 operating from Delhi to Goa on September 9, 2023. During the flight, the passenger declined to follow established safety protocols by repeatedly removing their pet from its container while the aircraft was in flight. This action not only posed a potential safety risk but also disturbed other passengers and crew members.”
The spokesperson said that their cabin crew requested that the passenger return the pet to its designated container, in accordance with their established pet carriage policy. “Unfortunately, the passenger was uncooperative. According to our process, upon landing our crew reported the incident to the relevant authorities. At Akasa Air, we have well defined protocols related to the carriage of pets on board to ensure the safety of customers and crew members and have zero tolerance against uncooperative passenger behaviour,” the spokesperson added.
In a similar incident reported in January this year, a woman took to social media to describe her horrific experience on a Delta flight after she was made to sit alongside a pitbull on the flight. Reportedly, the dog’s owner refused to put it inside the carrier and the dog also spoiled some of her belongings.
