Delhi: Woman, 4-year-old Daughter Crushed To Death By Speeding Tempo In Majnu Ka Tilla
The woman was declared dead upon arrival in hospital while her four-year-old daugher died during treatment

In a horrific road accident, a woman and her four-year-old daughter were killed on Friday after a speeding tempo hit them and others while they were sleeping outside their shanties near North Delhi’s Majnu ka Tilla. Three others were seriously injured in the incident and the accused has been apprehended, the police said.

According to PTI, the Delhi Police received a PCR call at 5:33 a.m. where the caller stated that a tempo had hit three people, including a woman, near Majnu ka Tilla, 56 Pahadi, Civil Lines, a senior police officer said.

Upon receiving the call, the police immediately reached the accident site and spotted five injured people lying. The Tata Ace tempo, which is allegedly responsible for the accident was also found lying at the site.

All the injured were rushed to the trauma centre where the woman, identified as Jyoti, 32, was declared dead upon arrival while her four-year-old daughter died during treatment, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said Subhash (30) and two children — aged six and 17 years — suffered minor injuries and have been discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, accused driver Dinesh Rai, a resident of Karawal Nagar, was caught by the public and beaten up, police said.

A case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered and further investigation is underway, the DCP added.

In another such incident reported on the same day, an unidentified man was crushed to death by a dumper truck in north Delhi’s Kashmere Gate area police said.

Accused Ajay Kumar, a resident of UP’s Mainpuri, has been arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.

Police found the body of a man, in his late 20s, lying in a pool of blood with his head crushed, a senior police officer said.
