Satyam Kumar, the son of a farmer in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, is inspiring many with his story which is now making headlines. Satyam, who secured a seat in the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur at the age of 13 in 2013, after securing a rank of 679 became the youngest to achieve the feat. This was his second attempt at cracking the IIT exam.
In 2012, he cleared the exam after attaining an all-India rank of 8,137. However, he decided to go for a redo. One year later, he gave the exam again and got a higher rank in the exam.
He then enrolled for a combined BTech-MTech course in electrical engineering and graduated in 2018 before moving to the United States to pursue his PhD from the University of Texas in Austin.
Once he completed his education, Kumar was employed at Apple at the age of 24. There, he worked as a machine learning intern until August 2023.
Meanwhile, earlier, a son of a farmer hailing from Umariya village, Bisalpur, Jagdish Chandra, became the first child in the family to attend college. The 22-year-old now works as a software developer at Lenskart in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Although his family’s financial condition was not good enough, he says his father always encouraged him to continue his education.
Jagdish has always seen his family financially struggling, while they are dependent on farming there had been times when the family did not even have anything to fill their stomach. Along with farming, his father worked as a labourer to earn money for the family.
“I was always fascinated by computers but never got a chance to use a computer as my school did not have a good infrastructure. After a lot of struggle, in the second year of my college, I finally got a laptop. I started watching Youtube videos to learn computer programming, web applications, and software development” Jagdish said.
