A Success Story from Anant Ambani’s Vantara: Injured Wild Jackal Recovers, Is Now Thriving
A wild jackal, with a history of accident and inability to move its hindquarters, was handed over to the Vantara rescue team. The animal has now recovered and is thriving

As Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation on Monday announced the launch of their Vantara (Star of the Forest) programme, an umbrella initiative to focus on rescue, treatment, care and rehabilitation of injured, abused and threatened animals, both in India and abroad, here’s a heartwarming rescue story.

A wild jackal was rescued by the forest department with a history of accident and inability to move its hindquarters and was handed over to the Vantara rescue team. The animal was swiftly moved to a quarantine facility and kept under critical care for treatment for pressure injuries and infections.

Further investigation with radiography revealed overriding fracture and dislocation of the first lumbar vertebrae.

The animal was stable for surgery and correction of the overriding fracture and dislocation was done using k-wires and pinning. The animal recovered successfully from surgery and after rest period, it was put to physiotherapy in a wheelchair and after few months of physiotherapy the animal made a remarkable recovery.

The result: The jackal has now recovered and thriving.
